Princess Stone: From Balancing Clerk to Aspiring Chartered Accountant through Milpark's new BCom Accounting degree
Meet Princess Stone, the first-ever student to enrol in our newly launched BCom Accounting programme. Princess started her work life as a balancing clerk after matriculating. Being a philomath, she quickly moved within business units, acquiring a wealth of knowledge and skills in the banking and finance department. She has worked as a financial administrator in the banking industry for the past 16 years.
"I hold a Banking qualification which I obtained through Milpark in 2012, and a Diploma in Financial Accounting obtained through another institution in 2018. In 2019, I registered to study the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification but opted out later, when I realised that it wasn’t the right fit for me,” Princess explains.
While searching for an institution that would best suit her study needs, Princess discovered that Milpark was introducing their first ever BCom Accounting degree. “Having previously studied with Milpark, I knew what to expect in terms of distance learning online delivery methods, and the culture of community. I knew that I wouldn’t walk my studying journey alone, and that I will have a world of support and guidance throughout,” she continues.
About her aspirations, Princess shares that once she completes Milpark’s BCom Accounting degree, she intends on continuing on the chartered accountant stream to qualify as a CA (SA), and grow into more senior professional accounting and finance roles.
“I am passionate about giving to the less fortunate, and I thrive on volunteering for any cause, no matter how big or small it may seem to be. I would like to make a difference by giving back the skills and knowledge acquired to the advancement of this profound profession. I hope to establish an NGO that focuses on aiding and empowering underprivileged communities in the near future,” she concludes.
The two quotes that resonate the most with Princess are, “The greatest glory of living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall,” by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and “Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education,” by Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
We wish you a very rewarding learning journey at Milpark’s School of Professional Accounting, Princess!
