Bachelor of Business Administration Majoring in Public Administration

The qualification is designed for individuals who aspire to build careers in both business and the broader public sector. It is well-suited to students who are interested in governance, policy, economics, and leadership, and who wish to understand how these areas impact organisations, communities and development.

The BBA with a major in Public Administration, allows students to engage with the core principles of governance, service delivery and policy alongside a solid grounding in business and management. It is ideal for students who want to understand how government and business intersect, gain insight into public sector operations, and build the skills needed to contribute to both corporate and public environments.

This qualification is particularly valuable for students who want to gain practical management expertise while developing an understanding of public sector institutions and their role in service delivery and accountability. It appeals to those who envision themselves as managers, analysts, or leaders in municipal, provincial or national contexts, as well as professionals who want to bring governance and policy awareness into corporate or non-profit roles.

On successful completion of the qualification, the student will receive a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, NQF Level 7.

Can I switch between BCom and BBA?

While both programmes share foundational elements, switching may require catching up on programme-specific modules. Speak to an academic advisor for guidance.

Is BCom only for students good at maths?

No. While BCom includes more quantitative modules, it is designed to help students understand and apply data, not become data analysts.

Does BBA include any data or statistics?

Yes, but BBA students are provided with data to interpret rather than generate it. The focus is on using insights to manage and lead effectively.

What kind of careers do BCom graduates pursue?

BCom graduates often enter roles in strategy, finance, business analysis and data-informed decision-making.

What kind of careers do BBA graduates pursue?

BBA graduates typically move into management, HR, client services and leadership roles focused on people and operations.

Do both (BBA and BCom) programmes include leadership training?

Yes. BCom focuses on leadership of self, others and systems. BBA emphasizes practical leadership and people management.

What is the Capstone module?

Both programmes include a work-integrated learning module. BCom students must source and apply data; BBA students interpret provided data and present insights.

Which programme is better for me?

If you enjoy working with data and strategic thinking, consider BCom. If you’re passionate about people and leadership, BBA may be a better fit.
