How Does the Online Bridging Course Work?

Milpark Education’s Bridging Course (Short Course Programme in Advanced Accounting) is a six-month programme with an option to complete it over one year on a half-load.  There are two intakes each year (February and July).

This programme acts as a bridging course between degree and postgraduate studies, preparing students for selection onto a SAICA-accredited PGDip (Accounting), from which students can progress to SAICA’s first qualifying examination in partial completion of qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.

Full Workload

  • Committing to a consistent 40 hours of study each week.
  • Registering and completing all four modules in six months.
  • Paying for all four modules at the start of the programme, or through a payment agreement.

Half Workload

If you can’t dedicate 40 hours per week for the full-load, there is the option to complete the programme over one year on a half-load as follows:

  • You’ll register for two modules in each half of the year.
  • You can choose the order in which you complete the modules.
  • You pay for two modules in each six-month period. This spreads the full cost over one year.

Immersive Online Learning

IO Learning is a guided, flexible digital experience designed to foster deeper learning and meaningful connection. Through scheduled sessions, interactive content, and collaborative activities, students engage in a human-centred environment that blends structure with flexibility. Advanced online tools, small-group collaboration, and personalised feedback create a rich, engaging, and connected learning journey.

Selection criteria when course is at maximum capacity

Where applications exceed the programme’s capacity, selection will be considered based on the following criteria:

  • Number of accounting modules attempted and completed during the relevant undergraduate degree. This includes Financial Reporting/Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Management, Taxation and Auditing.
  • Final marks achieved in the accounting modules in the relevant undergraduate qualification.
  • Time taken to complete the undergraduate qualification.
  • Academic inactivity in accounting-related studies.

Minimum Admission Requirements

For a qualification to be considered “appropriate”, it would usually have been obtained from a SAICA-accredited institution. If the undergraduate qualification is not from a SAICA-accredited institution, the applicant would need to demonstrate that their undergraduate qualification is aligned with SAICA’s competency framework.

Meeting the minimum admission criteria does not guarantee automatic acceptance, as only a limited number of students are enrolled per year. The institution will ensure that the number of students selected for the programme does not exceed the capacity for offering excellent quality education.

Where applications exceed the programme’s capacity, selection criteria will be considered.  Please refer to the Programme Structure for more detail.

  • If you can’t dedicate to a full workload, you have the option to complete the programme over two years on a half workload.
How does it work if I choose to do the PGDA/CTA over two years?

Year One (HWL1)

During HWL1, you register (and pay) for Management Accounting & Finance, and Corporate Governance & Auditing.  Upon successful completion of both of those modules, you progress to year two.

(If you do not pass both modules in year one, in the next year you either repeat HWL1 or may elect to register for the full workload.)

Year Two (HWL2)

During HWL2, you register for all four modules, but only pay for Financial Reporting and Taxation.  You will engage fully with Financial Reporting and Taxation during HWL2.

For Management Accounting & Finance and Corporate Governance & Auditing:

  • you’ll have access to material and support to stay up to date with them; and
  • it is recommended, but not required, that you write tests in these modules during the year.

At the end of the year, you’ll write final exams for all four modules, and you will need to pass all four modules in a single academic period to qualify for SAICA’s IAC.
