Dr Moruti Langa: Achieving the Highest Academic Honours with Milpark

Moruti believes it takes a community to raise a child. He was unsure whether to accept a scholarship with CIDA, but his neighbour and mentor convinced him. “Jonathan said, ‘You’re a multi-dimensional person. You’re young and will have time to change course. You’ve been given an opportunity - see what you can do with it.”

This advice proved pivotal. After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Moruti worked briefly in banking before joining an insurance company and discovering an industry he loves.

“Insurance is very interesting, and much bigger than I thought. Many insurance professionals will tell you it chooses you.” When his employer recommended Milpark’s Higher Certificate in Short-term Insurance, Moruti’s love for learning was reignited.

Milpark’s courses aligned perfectly with Moruti’s ambitions, and a “marriage” began. “I decided to pursue postgraduate studies with Milpark and have never looked back.”

After completing Milpark’s Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, he enrolled in the AMBA-accredited Master of Business Administration (MBA) and ultimately the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).

He was initially uncertain about online learning. “We used to attend sessions in person, and when it shifted fully online, I was worried it would feel impersonal. You have to prepare, participate, and think critically.” With support from academic staff and fellow scholars, Moruti successfully navigated his doctoral research.

Today, Dr Langa is a senior broker with African Dawn Risk Solutions, founder of the Policing App - a platform designed to improve community safety through accessible technology, and a published researcher.

His doctoral thesis, published in Business & IT, focused on Big Data Analytics in the South African financial sector. “At last, I could integrate my interest in science and business.”
