This qualification is designed for those seeking a solid foundation in business principles, including accounting, marketing, economics, and quantitative skills. Additional modules provide detailed knowledge for financial planners, Postgraduate Diploma aspirants, and those pursuing the Financial Services Advisor® (FSA®) designation.

Financial planning has gained prominence in South Africa due to increased regulation in the financial services industry. The Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) designation, recognized internationally, is offered by the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI). To attain this designation, a relevant postgraduate diploma is required.

Milpark’s FPI-accredited BCom with a major in Financial Planning provides a solid foundation for graduates to operate responsibly in this regulated environment. Completion of this qualification makes students eligible to write the FPI’s professional competency exam for the FSA® designation. The BCom degree equips students with knowledge in business management, accounting, and economics, enabling them to enter the job market or pursue further studies.

The BCom appears on the Financial Sector Conduct Authority’s (FSCA) list of recognised qualifications for FAIS Fit and Proper purposes.

On successful completion of the qualification, the student will receive a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, NQF Level 7.

Available learning modes

Full- or Half-load

Students can complete the programme in a minimum of three or six years, and a maximum of nine years.

To complete the programme in three years, students need to dedicate about 40 hours a week to studies, just like at a contact university. We call this the full-load programme.

If students can’t dedicate 40 hours per week for the full-load, there is the option to complete the programme over a minimum of six years on a half-load.

Applicants require a National Senior Certificate (please take note of the applicable minimum criteria listed below).

Immersive Online Learning

IO Learning is a guided, flexible digital experience designed to foster deeper learning and meaningful connection. Through scheduled sessions, interactive content, and collaborative activities, students engage in a human-centred environment that blends structure with flexibility. Advanced online tools, small-group collaboration, and personalised feedback create a rich, engaging, and connected learning journey.

Distance Learning

DL is a flexible, self-paced study mode for independent learners who prefer minimal online interaction. Students rely on textbooks and study guides, with optional access to online resources. Ideal for those with limited internet or who prefer offline study, DL offers lecturer support with less frequent engagement, allowing learners to manage their own progress.

Minimum Admission Requirements

Require a minimum of 24 points on the Milpark points system.
Require a symbol of E or higher for Mathematics on HG, or a symbol of D or higher for Mathematics on SG.
Candidates who do not meet the Mathematics requirement but who have achieved a rating of 4 or higher in any two of the following subjects may be offered admission on condition that they successfully complete the bridging programme: Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Physical Science or Physics/Chemistry, Natural Science or Biology.
Candidates who do not meet the 24-point admission criterion, may apply to Universities South Africa (USAF), for mature age exemption (https://mb.usaf.ac.za/).

Require a minimum of 50% in four NSC 20-credit subjects, including English.
A minimum mark of 50% for Mathematics or 70% for Mathematics Literacy.
Candidates who do not meet the Mathematics requirement but who have achieved a minimum mark of 50% or higher in any two of the following subjects may be offered admission on condition that they successfully complete the bridging programme: Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Physical Science or Physics/ Chemistry, Natural Science or Biology.

Does NSFAS fund Milpark Education?

NSFAS only covers public institutions and TVET Colleges. As a private higher education institution, Milpark Education does not offer NSFAS funding. However, we provide select bursaries and work closely with Capitec to offer financial aid to prospective students. Learn more about our Capitec partnership here.

Does Milpark offer bursaries?

Yes, Milpark Education offers bursaries based on academic performance and financial need. Applications typically open in September and close in November for the following year. Please note, bursaries are not available for the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA/CTA) and Advanced Accounting (Bridging Short Course to PGDA/CTA).
