Bachelor of Commerce Majoring in Investment Management

This qualification is designed for employed individuals seeking specialized knowledge in investment management. It’s also beneficial for those in junior positions in the investment management or administration industry, as well as anyone aiming for a career in this field.

The BCom degree with a major in Investment Management provides a solid educational foundation in commerce, covering key areas like business management, accounting, and economics. Graduates can operate effectively at an entry-level position in the investment management environment. It also serves as a pathway to BCom Honours or Postgraduate Diplomas in Investment Management, Portfolio Management, and/or Finance, which are often required for further career advancement in the sector.

The BCom degree appears on the Financial Sector Conduct Authority’s (FSCA) list of recognised qualifications for FAIS Fit and Proper purposes.

On successful completion of the qualification, the student will receive a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, NQF Level 7.

Available learning modes

Full- or Half-load

Students can complete the programme in a minimum of three or six years, and a maximum of nine years.

To complete the programme in three years, students need to dedicate about 40 hours a week to studies, just like at a contact university. We call this the full-load programme.

If students can’t dedicate 40 hours per week for the full-load, there is the option to complete the programme over a minimum of six years on a half-load.

Applicants require a National Senior Certificate (please take note of the applicable minimum criteria listed below).

Minimum Admission Requirements

Require a minimum of 24 points on the Milpark points system.
Require a symbol of E or higher for Mathematics on HG, or a symbol of D or higher for Mathematics on SG.
Candidates who do not meet the Mathematics requirement but who have achieved a rating of 4 or higher in any two of the following subjects may be offered admission on condition that they successfully complete the bridging programme: Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Physical Science or Physics/Chemistry, Natural Science or Biology.
Candidates who do not meet the 24-point admission criterion, may apply to Universities South Africa (USAF), for mature age exemption (https://mb.usaf.ac.za/).

Require a minimum of 50% in four NSC 20-credit subjects, including English.
A minimum mark of 50% for Mathematics or 70% for Mathematics Literacy.
Candidates who do not meet the Mathematics requirement but who have achieved a minimum mark of 50% or higher in any two of the following subjects may be offered admission on condition that they successfully complete the bridging programme: Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Physical Science or Physics/ Chemistry, Natural Science or Biology.

Does NSFAS fund Milpark Education?

NSFAS only covers public institutions and TVET Colleges. As a private higher education institution, Milpark Education does not offer NSFAS funding. Does Milpark offer bursaries?

Yes, Milpark Education offers bursaries based on academic performance and financial need. Applications typically open in September and close in November for the following year. Please note, bursaries are not available for the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA/CTA) and Advanced Accounting (Bridging Short Course to PGDA/CTA).
